Green Hub:
Healthy community = sustainable life.
This project was submited for “iida 2010:green heart” competition, that promoted the best green designs, in the field of architecture, industrial design and graphic design.
This community center, located in Valparaiso, a city with a lack of community spaces, proposes a green architecture that it does not only depend on „how many plants or garden“ do you have, but on how the humans live together in this place.
This community center joins green and social, with multipurpose rooms, self-sufficient gardens, and a plaza, witch can be used like a meeting point for the community and for the city, as well as a market to sell or trade their products.
This sequence: Meeting Rooms – Gardens – Plaza – Market, makes possible a social and environmental sustainability.
Such a Fog catchers in the facade supplies the gardens with water all year. This elements, already used in the Chilean desert, are made with a raschel net, also known as shade net, and transforms the usual coast fog into water.
This way the project is an urban Green Hub, between rest of the city and the neighborhood, that makes also possible sustainable communities in the city.
This project, as a low impact project, deserves a second chance, because this project shows a creative and responsible answer to a current problem, that can be made in Valparaiso (the project location) as well as in the every coast city in the world.
