Fragile Order
Delicate and sophisticated architecture built over the centuries reveals a geometric and material order resulting from the various hands and eyes. This wealth, achieved through the passing of time, has been reinterpreted to take it as a guideline in the project design.
The architectural intervention came after several changes to the exterior of the church that severely affected the functioning of the building. One of the biggest challenges of the project is precisely to incorporate a new series of distinct spaces within the clear existing structure composed by a large central nave and side chapels.
The reference to religious symbols has been reduced to a minimum. All pieces of furniture and liturgical items have been specifically designed for this project, aiming to keep a consistency with all elements and the palette of materials and colours used. The formal language of the liturgical elements draws simple aesthetic forms that convey solidity, roundness and timelessness.
