Competition entry_ 1045 Third Prize Accumulation of problems: The area was chosen in the heart of Yerevan for its typical urban
characteristics : density, noise, dust, traffic jams, lack of space.
So let’s imagine the situation after 21 years..
Habitants: The family starts with a couple, then it thrives, expands, while the living space should accommodate to changing demands.
Intelligent is solving: A House saturated with last technologies and gadgets up-to-date, House that assists in time conservation, housekeeping and is an enclosed private space at the same time.
Transformation: Solar panels cover the area of the House and the garden, providing sufficient energy. It’s movement during the day following the sun creates changing and flexible appearance. With its compact scale the House gives opportunity of extra spaces if necessary. Pool is a metaphor for an ‘empty space’, an excess room, which is not always needed, and the water in it is its ‘temporary filling’. In changing demands: in need of space it transforms into living area. The ‘water’ is removed and the area is being covered by inflatable membrane. Moreover, additional spaces can be added like the bedroom on the second floor.
The carved glass wall also serves as a projection screen. Substantial part of natural light penetrates inside from the glazed ceiling.
