At Hyundai Jungdong, architecture and colour converge to create a new paradigm for beauty retail. At the forefront is The Hyundai Group, whose innovative retail philosophy emphasizes immersive, design-led experiences. Their latest collaboration with BURDIFILEK marks a bold reinvention of the cosmetics floor.
The 42,000-square-foot retail space becomes a living environment where all beauty brands coexist - each distinct yet harmoniously integrated within one architectural vision.
The design redefines the conventional beauty department into an immersive landscape where structure and colour express identity. The numerous concrete columns, once visual obstacles, are transformed into sculptural anchors clad in angular, powder-coated steel forms inspired by origami. Their dual-tone finish - warm gold and deep grey-blue - shifts as visitors move, creating a kinetic rhythm that animates the space. Architecture becomes movement; colour becomes emotion.
A diagonally aligned ceiling echoes this dynamism, while the palette of white, grey-blue, and gold establishes a refined and neutral canvas as the architectural “skin” of the Hyundai brand. Within this framework, each cosmetic brand’s signature hue, from Aesop’s deep red to Gucci’s luminous yellow, is given space to “pop,” ensuring individuality without disrupting the overall harmony.
Lighting is treated as both art and precision instrument. A custom track system integrated above an open-cell ceiling delivers focused illumination, rendering makeup colours true to life. The darker floor grounds the space, absorbing light to heighten the visual impact of products and architectural elements alike.
A unified design guideline ensures visual consistency, balancing brand expression with Hyundai’s authority in design innovation. The result transcends the typical retail environment - it is a gallery of light, materiality, and colour that invites discovery.
This reimagined retail environment stands as an architectural statement: beauty as experience, colour as narrative, and space as a living embodiment of Hyundai’s commitment to design excellence.
