Hysan Place is a unique 17-storey mall designed with its own distinct personality in Hong Kong’s famous Causeway Bay.
Designed to create a new urban retail landmark in Hong Kong’s famous Causeway Bay shopping district, Hysan Place is a unique vertical mall comprising of 42,000sqm of Retail over 17 levels. The concept was to create a contemporary retail personality, establishing ‘The Place for all things Stylish’. Since opening to over 130,000 visitors on its first day in 2012, Hysan Place has continued to be the centre for retail in the bustling commercial district.
The interior space is purposely zoned into two distinct levels to entice the visitor upwards. Lower floors have been designed for Retail, while upper floors create a warm and inviting Food and Beverage (F&B) space. Both zones are dominated by two spectacular atria drawing light in to create a natural vibrancy and guide visitors on their upwards journey.
Not only working to open up and enhance the interior spaces of the vertical mall, the skylights have also allowed for special outdoor spaces. The Sky Garden on the 4th floor above the main atrium functions as a public and green outdoor space with rare open views over the dynamic Causeway Bay district.
Paying careful attention to retail and interior planning, escalators, express-escalators, and double-decked express elevators ensure smooth circulation for visitors. The circulation and navigation design also presents a special feeling of discovery. The relatively small foot plate and myriad of vertical transport options not only allows for efficiency, but also delivers a number of different routes through the mall, with new areas constantly unveiling themselves to repeat visitors.
Hysan Place has used creativity to complement the retail space, shaping consumer experiences as much as inspiring their imagination. Quirky use of graphic street art imagery appears where visitors wouldn’t normally expect while other visual representations reveal and disappear as you move through the mall creating a discovery style ambience appealing to the target demographic.
Hysan Place is also at the forefront of sustainable design as the first shopping centre in Hong Kong to be awarded the US Green Building Council’s LEED Platinum certification for sustainable design.
