EYA (www.eyadesigns.com), architecture and technology firm, teamed up with crowdsourcing engineering team rLoop (http://rloop.org/) for Build Earth Live's Hyperloop design competition in order to design a Hyperloop infrastructure and routes connecting three terminals - Dubai International Airport, Fujairah International Airport on the Gulf of Oman, and Jebel Ali Al Maktoum International Airport. The rLoop route would shorten travel times from over 2 hours to just 10 minutes via Hyperloop transit technology.
The futuristic design, led by Breanna Faye, expanded beyond the typical ‘station’ competition expectations and conceptualized how an entire Hyperloop ecosystem could manifest at a regional scale. "We wanted to put the focus on a modular system that would connect to and set the precedent for the globally interconnected network of Hyperloop stations and routes. The modules were designed as easily replicable sections that could be added to or interchanged as Hyperloop technology expands its routes and grows its capacity in the future. The project presents Dubai as the first regional Hyperloop hub, a leader in Smart Cities development and urban innovation, and provides a space for technological advances in mass transit to build from new infrastructures."
EYA and rLoop were one of six finalists, selected from 56 semi-finalists in a competition that attracted over 250 applications. The international competition gathered entries form top-tier design and specialized engineering firms from 26 countries around the world, and EYA was awarded an overall Design Award for Design, Drama and Excitement - the only design-specific award given in the competition. After the competition, they are working to finalize designs and prototypes for the SpaceX competition led by Elon Musk.
