The design for the office development implements
an innovative concept of “buildings within a building.” Five interior
“towers”—each one designed by a New York practice-- fit within a glass cube
designed by Stereo Architects. The collaboration produced an ecological design
strategy that targets LEED Platinum eligibility. Each interior “tower” complies with the ecological strategy
while contributing to the heterogeneous urban diversity. HWKN's tower imagines
what is would be like to inhabit the landscape between Manhattan's skyline and
the sky - the vertical forms of New York City erode at the tower's base to
create an auditorium composed of varied levels, that recreate the rhythm of
Manhattan's silhouette at a more human scale.
