Spectacular new cultural landmark opens a new chapter in the history of Hungarian museum architecture
One of the country's largest cultural and scientific investments is the Hungarian Museum of Natural History going to be built in Debrecen, which, in addition to being the premier showcase for environmental protection, biodiversity and sustainable development, will create a set of experiences that can appeal to hundreds of thousands of visitors year after year.
The winner of the international design competition is BJARKE INGELS GROUP and its Hungarian partner, Vikar and Lukacs Architecture Studio.
Their building proves architecture can simultaneously serve as a cultural landscape element and a tool for ecological restoration.
Fully aware that construction inevitably has environmental impacts, the museum was designed with a responsible, sustainability-focused approach, aiming to leave the site in a better condition than it was found, both for people and for nature.
The building is more than an exhibition space; a living and constantly evolving place where science meets the public, education connects with the community, and sustainability aligns with innovation.
