Hi,
This is Prem Trivedi, and I am the co-founder of SINGLE BRICK Studio, which is an architectural/ interior designing and landscape designing firm based in Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar.
And We call this project as the
humming Stone.
Our client has an occupation in the industrial sector of Rajkot, Gujarat. Since, I am an architect specialising in making personalised crafted spaces liveable it was my job and responsibility to provide the client with a healthy, soothing, luxurious and most prominently a HOMELY environment.
So, it all started with the basic brief from the client that he wanted interiors which do feel really calm and cosy that he can recharge and reimburse the stress and workload and give a kind of relaxed quality to it. So after a lot of R&D about the lifestyle of the family, we came up with a solution of bringing a stronger and softer material stone to the picture. So material palette is conceived with stone veneer panelling, marble, nano stone, and stone tile claddings.
As the rooms were relatively bigger so we tried to create plinth-like elements which you would be able to see in each and every piece of interior furniture like sofa, dining, beds and also in small minute details from the whole house.
The central public spaces of the house face south-east so in the morning while having their breakfast there is a light coming from the transparent windows due to which the central open spaces light up with a little bit of soft and muted colours while creating a cosy sort of environment in private spaces like bedrooms.
A combination of modern yet vintage accessories helped us in creating visual balance in all rooms.
Here stone palette used in each and every space itself speaks for itself. Like going from a lighter tone in the living and dining area and a darker palette for bedrooms, the Client was fond of tortoises and has had two of them so we tried to go with the same type of materials, textures and colours for the close proximity in-between the client and their love for tortoise.
It's not always about the natural light but sometimes it is more about creating a contrast to the spaces and much more importantly where and how you create it.
Generally, instead of creating an ancient wall, we tried to achieve a curtain wall as an art piece by its, textures, colours, patterns and rhythm.
To summarize this project
It was great working with skilled craftsmen and an understanding client. I think it's great to find something that works for you and look after it rather than necessarily feeling like you have to come into a space and always completely reinvent it...
