Humanscale, a leader in ergonomic workplace products, partnered with Reddymade to design its pioneering new showroom at 345 N Morgan Street in Chicago’s Fulton Market neighborhood. The collaboration culminates in a space that not only showcases Humanscale’s commitment to comfort and wellness but also sets a new benchmark in sustainable design.
The new Humanscale showroom is now designated as Living Building Challenge 4.0 Ready by the International Living Future Institute, the most rigorous measure of sustainability for buildings, and designed to comply with the standards for Design for Freedom y Grace Farms, which employ ethical material selection and procurement practices. These certifications underscore Humanscale’s longstanding commitment to environmental stewardship and social responsibility not only across its products, but all aspects of the business.
The street-level space embodies Humanscale’s minimal aesthetic and features large circular architectural volumes, framing and accentuating the brand’s hero products, including the iconic Freedom Chair celebrating its 25th anniversary this year. The material lab allows visitors to experience products, textiles, and finishes first-hand.
Suchi Reddy, founder of Reddymade, shares, “Central to the design narrative is the notion of embodied experience—every element is curated to enhance how the body interacts with space, just as Humanscale’s products celebrate the body. The design fosters a sense of expansiveness, inviting visitors to explore, discover, and engage with these transformative products. With an economy of materials and a focus on sustainability, the space serves as both a canvas for innovation and a sanctuary for the senses—a true testament to Humanscale’s enduring legacy of timeless design.”
Humanscale’s Chief Sustainability Officer, Jane Abernethy, shares, “Our top priority when working on this space was to uphold the highest environmental standards, even if it had never been done before. We hope this encourages other manufacturers to be more considered regarding their physical footprint.” The street-level space embodies Humanscale’s minimal aesthetic and features large circular architectural volumes, framing and accentuating the brand’s hero products, including the iconic Freedom Chair celebrating its 25th anniversary this year. This new Humanscale Chicago showroom marks the beginning of a long-term global partnership between Reddymade and Humanscale, with plans for further showroom openings around the world, including in Paris, Sydney, and Singapore.
