The site for the restaurant happens to be the physical boundary where developer’s desires to develop the Shanghai North Bund Waterfront district meet the city government’s demands.
It is an extension of the hardscape plazas where office buildings are situated as well as an area of government’s riverside park control. In this boundary, the developer wants to preserve views to Pudong areas for their future residents and the city wants a restaurant for the people using the riverside park.
The developer expressed the desire to create a sculptural icon with the restaurant pavilion and the marina control tower allowing maximum views to Pudong and green areas. By overlapping the site situations and the demands, the hardscape plaza becomes an extension of the green areas and the plaza, a place to experience new views. At the same time, the riverside park yields a friendly public restaurant area with dramatic views. The curvy path leads to DockmasterBuilding to complete the icon.
