HudsonAlpha Institute for Biotechnology’s mission is to develop commercially viable uses of biotechnology, including the facilitation of new licensing opportunities. Research conducted by the institute will focus on four general areas including Infectious Diseases (including viral disease and antibiotic resistance), Cancer diagnosis, Neurological Diseases, and Genetic Diseases. Drug discovery laboratory space is also included in the project’s program. The 270,000 square foot project includes bioengineering research space for tissue culture, incubation, wet chemistry, freezer farms, glassware washing, sterilization, autoclaves and vivarium cage washing. The design concept provides a highly flexible and efficient environment that minimizes first costs to the project developer while reducing the impact of future fit-up operations. Modular laboratory furniture is being used in lieu of fixed casework to improve flexibility. The project also features several significant social spaces to encourage interaction between tenants including a library, café, conference rooms and atrium. Cooper Carry provided full design services including a master plan for the entire campus, building shell design, programming, lab planning, interior design and landscape design.
