With headquarters in Los Angeles, Hudson Pacific Properties is a commercial developer and property manager focused on developing and re-developing spaces that attracts media and tech. They approached McKinley Studios to design their first Canadian office with the goal of establishing a West Coast Canadian identity through their physical space, while keeping it fresh with tech-inspired rawness.
Subtle hints of nature exist throughout the office in a unique and modern way – the raked travertine reception desk draws inspiration from the open face stone of a mountainside, locally reclaimed oak boasts its live edge along the boardroom ceiling. The furniture, lighting, and décor were sourced from an abundance of British Columbia based designers. Exposed building elements give contrast to the natural elements, tailoring the space towards the modern tech. Concrete floors and ceilings catch the daylight cast by the polished chrome framed office partitions.
When Hudson asked us to include their company values somewhere in the design, a collaborative light bulb went off. We commissioned Ben Skinner, who is widely known for his elaborate display windows at leading fashion brand Aritzia, to help bring a wordsearch installation vision to life. Fabricating letters using recycled office paper as the material, Ben literally embedding Hudson’s value of 'sustainability' within the piece with organic finesse.
Since project completion, the office space served as the backdrop for an Off-White fashion photoshoot and Hudson Pacific Properties has involved McKinley Studios to re-envision the Bentall Centre of Downtown Vancouver.
