The city center of Salzburg is listed as one of UNESCO's world cultural heritage sites. The building
„Haydnstraße 8“, built by Georg Eschlauer in 1876, is situated very closely to the historical center named above and certain parts of the building are of historic interest. Moreover, the building is situated in a zone with very sensitive construction activity.
The building was to be valorized through two different architectural interventions: the main building was to be extended by a forth storey, gathering the moving structure of the environmental roof landscape.
The building to the back with its shed-character was to be interpreted in a completely new manner. A small, calm, and cosy residential ensemble should be generated. The diverse distribution (different levels, differ-ent masses) of the construction volumes hereby creating open space in the courtyard for the residents.
