The design is contextually inspired by the legacy of Howard Hughes and his innovations in aviation design. Namely, the famed Spruce Goose was the source of inspiration: the sleekness of the exterior metal skin is juxtaposed with the organic nature of the interior wood braces. The project stems from this notion of dichotomy as it presents a stern and regimented external façade facing the freeway, and a much more soft and inviting façade from the street side. The project embraces a sense of discovery, when the outer protective shell opens up to reveal a core that is rich in texture and layers.
