This is a project which tries to explain the architecture philosophy of a company.
The elaboration of natural stone is one of the oldest trades that exists. The extraction and molding of the stone has always followed a method of manual and traditional processing.
Culturally, stone in architecture has always had an added value, due to its great varieties and the possibility to shape it into different elements.
With the industrial revolution, the traditional processing of the stone has turned into a mechanic process of production which is unhumanizing nowadays architecture.
Stone blocks come from the quarries for being processed by machines that cut panels into standard sizes, fast and in big quantities. This manufacturing process is an efficient process for companies, where the price is cheaper and the industry is imposed on the architecture.
Architects that want to be competitive have to adapt their projects to the markets and fabrica-tion-industry rules, creating their architectures based on the standardized and pre-established processes of the companies. But BATEIG Natural Stone try to reverse this tendency, adapting production to projects. Architectural design should improve life of the society and its main priority is that it should be loyal to its function: improving people’s life.
The cube is a geometric form based on straight cuts and, traditionally, is the easiest way to make a volume. Simple cuts at 90 degrees where their edges are perpendicular to each other.
What the masterpiece wants to convey is the change in the Natural Stone industry, where the stone adapts to the specific design, moving and reappropriating tradition and culture value. The stone is molded to suit architecture, not vice versa.
The intention of this stone is to reflect the transition from the simple to the complex. While the piece remains the same, preserving its traditional character, its purpose is different.
The modernization of technology has evolved. The product is not imposed on architecture, but the product adapts to the architecture.
This piece represents the transition from the traditional to the modern, using new technologies to create a traditionally modern product.
The evolution of the simple, from a simple to the most complex elaboration. A sophisticated product with a special design.
This piece is a demonstration of the adaptation of a material to the needs of an efficient design, based on tradition and technology as a primary element.
