A 43,00 m2 plot in the old town of La Morera de Montsant, is where the renovation of a weekend single-family house will take place.
The house has three floors and is closed with an old facade and three stone walls. The ground floor is divided into parts which contain the entrance area, guest restroom, and laundry room that is located on the street level, and the other section has a greater ceiling height, containing a multi-functional family room and storage room and that is semi-buried. The first floor is defined by a single space of a dining room, living room, and kitchen. The second floor has two bedrooms under a sloping roof and has a bathroom and fitting room under a flat roof.
Due to the narrowness of the street and the existence of a single facade, we decided to cut the roof towards the back, over the bathroom and the fitting room, which resulted in a reduction of the height to provide better natural lighting and ventilation of the entire house which is further distributed through the second flight staircase area that was specifically designed for this purpose.
The staircase of this second flight is conceived with independent wooden steps hanged of vertical metallic profiles subjected between the first and second floor, working as partition element between the kitchen and the living-dining room without closing the space visually. On the other hand, the staircase of the first flight is completely closed for a thermal and visual isolation purpose on the ground floor at the dining, living, and kitchen areas.
The predominant white color on the interior preexistent stone walls and the wooden floors give the house an agreeable and warm sensation.
