A young couple made the decision to leave central Prague and build their first home together on the city’s peaceful outskirts. More than just a place to live, they envisioned a sanctuary — one that offered privacy, a strong connection to the garden, and space for future family life. One particular desire stood out from the start: to create a secluded outdoor sauna, hidden from neighboring houses, where they could relax in quiet, undisturbed comfort.
They imagined a life where children could play freely in the garden, where summer evenings would be spent dining with friends by an open fire, and where the rhythms of outdoor living would become a natural extension of the home.
Alongside a traditional family layout—including a master bedroom, home office, two children’s rooms, and a generous open-plan living space—this request for a private wellness zone became a defining element of the design.
The house is located in Radotín, a quiet suburban neighborhood high above the Berounka River valley. The flat, well-oriented corner plot offered generous space, but its openness to neighboring homes presented a challenge: how to maintain intimacy in an otherwise exposed setting.
The house is positioned close to the northern street boundary, preserving as much garden area as possible to the southwest. Its depth is minimized, and large square windows create strong visual and physical connections between indoors and out. On the ground floor, the study and living area open directly to a garden terrace shaded by a discreet cassette awning.
Upstairs, the children’s bedrooms, master suite, and bathrooms are organized efficiently, with a special feature accessible from the master bathroom: a rooftop wellness zone placed above the garage. This includes a sauna and outdoor shower enclosed within a larch-clad steel structure. From here, a staircase continues upward to a rooftop terrace with sweeping views over the Berounka valley, nearby hills, and, on clear evenings, the distant lights of Prague. The density of suburban life falls away—the sky becomes the limit.
The house’s exterior features a ventilated brick façade. The soft, light-toned brickwork combined with warm larch cladding gives the building a tactile and refined character—simple in form, yet rich in detail.
