YEAR
2015
A renovation project of a small house with a kura(a traditional Japanese style storage) in Gosho-Higashi a small town located between Kyoto Gyoen and the Kamo river. The client, one who has been working for years as a creative director involved in many food related projects, and the other a gallerist who has been introducing traditional craftsmanship of Japan.  We aimed to create a new space where the clients can face their profession of “food” and “lifestyle”.  A place where the multi functions (a gallery, tearoom, office and guest room) influence each other. For the over all design plan, the office was placed on the 2nd floor and a tearoom with a counter to sit 6 guests on the ground floor, a gallery space to exhibit pottery and everyday tools, and a guest room was created. Existing elements were repaired or partially renovated, other than the tearoom and guest room which were both fully renovated. By keeping the characteristics of spacial continuity and variability which Japanese residences behold, each of the functions in this house are able to create an adequate relationship.
