Art collectors with two young boys desired to connect their existing living spaces to their beautiful back yard with a modest addtition occupying the existing garage. The family desired to retain the qualities and scale of spaces of the existing home while connecting to the outdoors with a modern expression. The proposed connection to the outdoors came in the way of a 12’x 18’ glass & steel gallery that also complimented the existing scale and massing of the original structure. The gallery connection parralled the scale of the entry and created an outdoor space acting as the 4th (outdoor) living room. The existing garage space would become the semi-private family room, adjacent to the gallery, kichen, and outdoors. The gallery would be flexible for entertaining and serve as the center of the home, both indoors and out, when entertaining.
