This house is located in Fukuoka, Japan. There is a lot of nature around the site.
The client is a married couple and they have two children.
The father is often away from home because of his job. So it’s important that the house has security features.
In general, when we consider the security of buildings, sometimes it’s closed to outside.
So we have to balance openness, livability and security on this project.
We thought this house should be a flat house.
Because the site is located on a little higher ground than other houses.
Considering that, it’s better to be a low building.
For these reasons, we planned the house which is opened to the inside.
So we place a living and dining room in the center of the site.
After that, we planed children’s rooms, a bath room and a kitchen around there.
We think it’s like a camp. Everyone pitches a tent around the living and dining room.
And we planned a wide passage with a wooden lattice around the rooms.
It’s like a porch. They also can come and go every rooms using this passage.
Making this lattice, the passage can be outside space not only inside space.
That gives a new value to it. And the lattice works like a screen. It protects their privacy.
In this way, every room harmonizes with outside gently, so this house can be small, but not cramped.
