Location
Lush vegetation separates the densely-populated area of the communist era prefab housing estate suburbs on the hill (Kamenný vrch) from the sparsely-populated pre-war villas bellow it.
The originally smooth transition between these two areas have become a border – a breaking point.
A “crack” between places that are both searching for their lost identity is now wilderness. And this wilderness is reflected in the area for the described project - uncertainty, yet mystery and beauty.
Proposal
Only a small part of the garden is suitable for construction. The area is relatively straight and accessible. Two determinant directions intersect here. The north-south axis is pointing through the fruit tree alley into the depths of the wilderness , east-west direction is an open gate to the horizon above bank of the Elbe river.
New house reflects structure and character of the landscape. There was also a massive influence in terms of material – owner has provided lots of building material and components himself.
Low, corrugated roofing, along with variety of many motifs applied on a small area, point out to the phenomenon of typical garden houses with their temporality, variability, uniqueness, buildings where randomness fights with order.
Owner is a historian, enthusiast and collector, so we expect another intense and interesting layering over time to come.
