This house
is the first proposal for a house on this mews lane in Sandymount and begins to
establish a set of development guidelines for future projects in this context. The brief
required a modest house that would take advantage of the open aspect of the
site to the south west, while maintaining the privacy of the main house.
Bedrooms, Bathrooms and Garage are located on the ground floor, with the Living
Space, Kitchen and Dining at First Floor Level taking advantage of the view to
the south west for daylight.
The concept
evolved into one of floor and roof plates defining internal space, between
these horizontal planes internal elements are slipped and positioned as
required. The form of the building is cut back at first floor level to
accommodate a terrace exposing the top of the First Floor plate, break joints
in the gable render further articulate the reading of the planes. The Iroko
screens to the front and rear elevations again reinforce the reading of the
plates by returning onto the gable.
