The relatively small plot with few outlooks in the ground floor is situated slightly away from downtown in an existing settlement structure. The building owners wanted a home for their 4-person family with as much privacy as possible in a transparent and translucent house with easy-care outdoor space.
We accommodated the request of our clients to exploit the building density and this is why nearly the half of the plot is embattled or developed.
The building is east-west orientated and extends along the residential road from north to south to acts as an optical barrier to the garden in the west. The access road is located in south-east to the garage.
The house is characterized by high contrast – either by shaping or coloring. The monolithic building volume with a slightly inclined roof is enhanced by dark brown pasted Eternit façade.
The massive appearance is in evidence from north and south-west.
To the street, an inserted, rectangular cube bursts the strict geometry in the first floor. This part of the building is also in contrast to the dark monolith because of the material of the plastering façade and the bright colour.
The building is developed from the east side. Through a light-flooded access with view to the garden you get into the house. In the ground floor there is apart from the large, open plan housing with kitchen, dining table and living room, a guestroom and a billiard room, where the building owners are able to engage in their hobby with friends. The guest toilet constructed in a way that a subsequent elevator installation is possible at any time.
The living room is characterised by the fluent passage between the inside and the outside with frameless windows. For this reason it is possible to get the nature into the building.
In consequence of the small remaining property we picked out a moveable deck for the swimming pool to get more terrace space when the pool is not used.
Through a single-run staircase it is possible to get on the one hand to the living space in the first floor and on the other hand to the basement, which is arranged cosy. For fall protection we used a lamella formed aluminium frame element, which is also the picture frame for the wedding present.
The first floor is designed as a private area with two children’s rooms and a children’s bath, an utility room, which is changeable to another children’s room and the parent’s bed. The parent’s bathroom is on the one hand directly in the bedroom and also in the adjoining wellness area.
In front of the spa area there is a roofed terrace, where the building owners are able to enjoy the view in their Jacuzzi, protected by semi-transparent screens.
The single-family home was built in mixed construction with supporting structure made out of reinforced concrete and brick infills. The roof truss was accomplished in steel construction with composite lumber.
Defining elements in the ground floor with continuous, hand-planked dark oak floor is on the one hand the large glass elements with view to the garden and on the other hand the railings of the staircase. These elements made out of powder-coated aluminium-form tubes affect the sense of space on the ground floor. For the building owners it was very important to have a good entertainment centre in their house.
In the first floor we used restful and modest materials. The wall surface of the staircase with its plaster structure causes a special atmosphere in the private area of the house. The door elements are flush-mount with the walls and the lighting underlines the straight concept. Except the wellness area, every room got the same flooring as in the ground floor.
