The starting point: a small barn in the middle of St. Ulrich village, which was almost a total ruin. A firewall was attached to one side, therefore only 3 facades are present. The volume of the construction had to remain intact, so as a result a small house could be built, and with the exact same floor plan.
The floor plan is almost 4 X 5,5m; the height of the building is 8m. The idea was to give a new interpretation of the traditional wooden architecture and the appropriate construction method.
What came about is a horizontal layered block of wood with openings for the windows, which have the same height as the individual layers, so the building obtains a homogeneous block structure and an individual character. The horizontal layers continue in the interior space, however with other dimensions, as the windows including the frames require more space. The interior has been structured in different split-levels, so as the staircase from one floor to the next will not appear too long thereby obtaining a continuous spaciousness.
Upon entering the bathroom is one step down, further steps downwards to the first bedroom. Up the stairs you arrive to the kitchen which is directly connected to the dining area although this is one level higher. Further up the stairs you arrive to a second living area with an alcove
Roofing used previously for cars is now a patio.
