House on Hills is located in Chodziez, small city in Greater Poland, in Poland. The plot lays on steep hillside which local people call Bergi (ger. Bergen). At the base of this hill is city lake and the house takes full advantages of this scenic landscape. To allow easy access on property for cars we designed garage on the top of building , on the road’s level. Living space is below and user has to go downstairs to get the entrance. House seems to be dig into the hill and follows the changing level of terrain. That’s why kitchen and dining room is lower than living area. Kitchen/dining room has double height, what with huge vertical window creates free, open space above one’s head. Bedroom is on second floor on mezzanine. All windows in House on Hills open into southern-west extensive wide view.
All external surfaces of the house are claded in corten steel skin. It allows to design precise, homogeneous finishing with sharp edges and no other materials.
Garden is designed as a natural covered hill without any human interference. On this steep slope user can rest on “flying” platforms accessible from living room and dining room.
