The ‘House of Ruya’ project began as a structural retrofitting task but evolved into a complete interior transformation of a second-floor apartment in Delhi. The redesign includes the kitchen, bathroom, laundry, two bedrooms, and living room, with the integration of new industrial steel elements being a crucial aspect. The client wanted to conceal the steel structure, add a second closet accessible from the bedroom, and capture views of the surrounding greenery.
Inspired by contemporary design, the apartment offers a tranquil retreat within the busy cityscape, situated near a commercial and IT hub. The entrance foyer has a textured concrete wall, and the rooms are adorned with vibrant colours. The living room features a hardwood ceiling that merges seamlessly with the concealed steel beam. Wide openings, natural materials, and clean edges create an inviting atmosphere, while the layout connects the living room to the bedrooms along a linear passage.
Steel jambs and narrow wooden frames enhance the aesthetic, while light tones and matte textures maximize space and natural light. Key features include bespoke cabinetry, a walk-in closet with a large window, and a full-height mirror to amplify the sense of openness. Handcrafted furniture pieces complement the compact layout, adding a touch of luxury and comfort.
