This project, for a couple who travels far, wide and frequently, is a
contemporary interpretation of an Italian hilltown. The building’s volumes are
simultaneously discreet / merged, small / large, delicate / massive, tactile /
flat. Two structures, the main living quarters and a detached garage with a
live-in apartment, are organized around a specimen stone pine to create an
outdoor room / motor court. Inside and out, the house has a rich palette of
materials and features custom furniture and accessories. The project includes a
variety of outdoor spaces including a trellised dining area, a breezeway, an
elevated deck, a spa, and a south-facing terrace with a fountain and sculpture.
