This house is located in Ushiku City, Ibaragi Prefecture, about an hour by car from Tokyo. The exterior features a triangular roof with no windows on the front facade, to create an image of blocks placed on the ground. Inside, the floor and door material are painted in shades of brown to match the color of the client’s antique furniture.
The stairs, arranged next to the kitchen at the center of the house, are a place of communication between the mother and her children, who sit on the steps and read books or watch television.
It is a small house but one does not feel the limited size of the space because of the large window facing the terrace, and the expansion of the space through an open ceiling from the first floor living room to the second floor attic.
