The house is located on a tight, urban lot in a newly constructed neighborhood on the banks of Lake Grivita, Bucharest, Romania. The intent is to use the house year-round, so the biggest challenge was to make this building as open to the water as possible while maintaining the privacy of its inhabitants and have a design that maximized the home’s footprint on its tight infill lot. So, a large terrace elevated above the street and overlooking the water was provided, while large walls of glass frames were oriented to frame views of the garden, visually blending the indoors and outdoors. The entire ground floor is considered living space, with rooms with large doors that allow nature to be experienced close-up in every direction.
The house moves in an orderly way in two directions, towards the lake, and around the garden, while throughout the interior, ceiling heights and room volumes vary, becoming more spacious in the rooms opening up towards views. The living, dining, and kitchen are grouped to form a central gathering space. Even in winter, the sun-warmed rooms create a comfortable transition between inside and out.
