A house combined with a small guesthouse, a strongly
sloping terrain, a panorama view and limiting communal
building regulations determined the structure
and form of this building.
The property, which is situated on the Rolle hills,
has a wonderful view of Lake Geneva and the Alps
towards the south. The building hugs the terrain,
stretches out opposite the panorama and is organised
around the integrated kitchen, dining and living
area, which forms the building’s core. There, the different
views of the landscape strengthen the relationship
between the interior and exterior spaces.
The two glass fronts of the southern façade reflect
two levels with a difference in height that is analogous
to the sloping terrain. While the upper level
is dedicated to dining enjoyment and receiving
guests, the lower level accommodates the bedrooms
and family living room. The different heights
are also reflected in the living room steps.
Since the communal building regulations required
slanted roofs with projecting canopies, the project
was developed around that theme. The three roof
areas mark the three privileged directions, while the
large canopies protect the two terraces. The frames
for the glazed openings and the façade panels consist
of dark brown anodized aluminium.
