House Jonker is located in a residential estate east of Pretoria, South Africa. Built on one of the last open stands in an established part of the estate, it is adjacent to a green area surrounding the golf coarse. A grove of indigenous trees on the site was retained to create privacy from the street, but also to link it visually to the natural landscape.
The house is a composition of minimalist boxes. They are placed to create separate functional spaces with various degrees of privacy. A studio and guest room is placed in a separate box closest to the street, while the main house occupies the larger and more private part of the site.
