It was our clients ambition to transform this split-level, upside down property in Winchester with a contemporary two-storey addition. The severely sloping plot combined with isolated first floor living spaces meant the connection between the house and the garden was poor - our proposal aimed to embrace this opportunity to refocus the internal spaces with views toward the garden.
A new kitchen and study are housed within a striking timber clad structure at first floor, punctuated by a series of windows, each framing a different view across the mature garden. A new external staircase below the vaulted timber clad roof structure provides access to a hard landscaped space below.
The palette of materials has taken reference from the soundings. Up and over cedar cladding has been used to allow the new addition to develop and mature within its leafy setting.
