Overlooking a valley, this XIX century farmhouse and adjoining barn is surrounded by a landscape made of fields and forests.
The project consists of using the remaining granite walls of the barn to build a family home.
The concept is to enjoy the surrounding presence of nature while being inside.
This is achieved with a panoramic view from the living room.
Instead of a traditional layout with the living room at the ground floor level and the bedrooms upstairs, here the living room is nested on top of the existing stone wall and offers fantastic views.
This makes sense from a construction point of view, as carving large windows in the existing stone wall would have been expensive.
The odd angular shape of the existing wall has been kept, giving a dynamic, organic and unique aspect to the house.
The use of sustainable materials, like wood cladding set vertically along the new façade allows the building to fit naturally in the landscape.
