The site is located in Tokyo.
This is the housing project for two generations. We have renovated the house, which was built 40 years ago, and the existing structure was reinforced against earthquakes and extension parts were built that have an expansion joint.
We tried to recreate not only the relationship between the two generations, but also the relationship between "the house" including the site and "the surrounding area," which includes passerby and streets.
The series of the wall lead the street into the house while the balcony stretched ahead to the street surrounding the existing garden, which is a buffer between the street and the house. The texture of the wall is selected mortared tile, which has an intermediate resolution compared to concrete block wall (typical fence and interior wall).
Both families of the two generations live independent; at the same time, they share the two kinds of the outside space. One is the street led into the house. The other is the existing garden. These two outside spaces create the migration flow line that they connect the two households. Therefore, there is a flexible relationship between the two families.
