This building consists of two parts: the hair salon “Kyurasu” is on the ground floor and the clients’ personal home is situated on the first floor.
The first floor is a home that has been specially designed for a couple to live comfortably.
In the design phase of the building, three car spaces were planned to suit the clients’ needs. This allows a personal car space for the clients and two car spaces for the hair salon. The north side of this land is adjacent to the street, while the other three sides of the site have adjacent buildings; hence, the clients’ home was built on the first floor to allow more sunlight and privacy.
The first floor holds the dine-in kitchen, and two living areas consisting of a Japanese-style room and a western-style room. To provide the client with a spacious and comfortable home with great natural light, the home has an open-plan design with each area cleverly divided using varying sunken floors and ceiling heights. Flexible partitioning was also built into this home so that once the partition is removed, the entire area becomes one large open space. This spacing solution allows the couple to enjoy both open spaces as well as individual private spaces. The depth of the sunken floors also aids utility in that as the clients gradually reach an elderly age, they can still comfortably move around their home.
