This house is for a family of 5 people who are 7 and 6 years old sisters, 4 years old brother and their parents.
The site has narrow width and long depth which is typical in downtown Tokyo, thickly housed area.
We proposed to float some solid boxes of private rooms(child room, bedroom, utilities) in the maximum volume, and fill the void with the shared spaces(living, kitchen, dinning, study space).
The boxes has some windows, so the family feel some visible or invisible presences of each other between them.
The void has a top light and bright enough, so it is full of activity.
For clear composition of the solid boxes and the void, we used the wooden frame structure with special hardware "home connector".
To keep comfortable thermal environment in a big air volume, we put a circulation fan and provided ducts between top and bottom of the house.
After the completion, children ran around in the house and played hide-and-seek. The intention of design was realized!
