This house, made for my parents live in, is located in one of many gated communities in the city of Bragança Paulista, located 90 km away from the city of São Paulo.
The site
The project started choosing the site, found in the internet. At the page, one photo showed a sloping terrain with a lake surrounded by beautiful palm trees in the background. That image guided the designing of the house.
Site plan
The first operation was to define two plateaus on the slope, so the house could be deployed through the procedure of cut and fill the terrain. The first plateau, called access square, is open to the street and serves as a parking lot, and the second one, a floor below, accommodates the volume of the house. That volume consists of two juxtaposed blocks, one facing the street and the other looking at the landscape. In the first one, we find the wet areas (bathrooms on the access floor and toilet, kitchen and laundry room on the lower level) and in the second block, the dormitories and living rooms. That arrangement guaranteed the same visual as well as the same qualities of natural lighting and ventilation to the living rooms and to the dormitories.
Program
The building of 165sqm has a conventional program organized on two stories. At the level of access are located the bedrooms and bathrooms. On the floor below, dining and living rooms with a fireplace , toilet, kitchen, laundry room and the living area, that projects itself toward the outside, creating a terrace, and finally, under the terrace, a complementary suite.
Access can be done in two ways, by the metal bridge that connects the access plateau to the dorms level or a staircase that links the street level to the lower plateau. An internal staircase, continuing the access bridge, connects the two floors and the access to extra bedroom is done by an external staircase of reinforced concrete.
Structure
The structure consists of columns and beams made of reinforced concrete at the periphery, molded in loco. The conventional slabs are disposed in the smaller span, being sustained by the edge beams. The bridge and the external staircase - that access the roof garden - were made in metallic structure, as well the guard rails. The retaining walls were erected in granite and the walls are made of clay bricks.
