HOUSE G is the renewal and expansion of a historical residential building in the heart of Ferrara.
The building is located just a few meters from one of the most beautiful straights of the Renaissance defensive walls complex, within the compact urban structure of the historic center of Ferrara. The existing building is from the early fifties, and obtains a bold new face through an intervention of recovery and expansion.
The consolidated architectural body grows in height in search of a spectacular view of the horizon while leaving the traditional brick cladding. This results in a simple and rigorous material standing presence with carved openings that meet the original layout's geometry.
Fields of color and tone variations, demarcated by three-dimensional carvings in the wall surfaces, stir the ingredients of the common language of urban housing, and give the elevations a taste of the contemporary. All the while the building is retained and protected by the laws of the Architectural and Environmental Heritage Office.
Other additions include a large, covered balcony on the top floor, defined by a transparent wall of glass, framing the view of the walls. From the inside, rooms and spaces seem to float among the trees.
