The concept evolved
into an introverted & compact form suspended over the site. The form is
manipulated - extruded downwards to house the stairs and utility spaces,
upwards to form water tanks and outwards to form bay windows. Externally, the
ground plane is of cut stone, taking up changes in level across the site.
Internally, white terrazzo is used on the ground floor. The living spaces –
kitchen, dining, living - are contained in the interstitial space between the
ground and the form above. The stairs to the first floor is lined in iroko
timber folded across the floor of the landing and library space, The change in
material defines the transition between ground and first floor levels.
