A large house for a couple with four children rests high above on a hillside. The house takes up position on the site to accentuate the landscape values, connecting views of the steep rock formation at the back, with the panoramic view of the city and the Pacific Ocean at a distance. The design seeks a balance between nature, independence, and communal living for the inhabitants
The unique characteristics of the site and its surroundings, led us to locate the ground floor ten meters above the street, clearing the view of the rooftops of the neighbouring houses. In order to avoid loosing 200 m2 of garden, a ramp-tunnel connects the street with the parking area above. A series of stone structural walls contain the terrain and terrace up to the garden.
At each level it discovers its specific relationship with the outside. A transparent volume containing the main staircase joins two elongated volumes in the second floor, and surrounds an external courtyard that grants a relaxing space to contemplate the stars.
