The house is located in the suburbs of the capital of Bulgaria – Sofia, at an intersection between the urbanized structure and the natural environment. This boundary characteristic of the building is the basis of the concept – to be a buffer between city and nature, movement and privacy, formal and informal spaces.
The design follows this logic and is on the threshold between the modern urban home and the image of the mountain cottage; between the minimalist straight lines and the cozy gable roof. It is a compilation between modern and traditional, urban and natural, abstract and naturalistic.
Located on a plot with tall trees and surrounded by greenery, it fits into the environment through natural materials and earthy tones. The facades are linearly textured, with references to the verticality of the pine trees. The large south windows open the living spaces to light and the yard, and the mostly closed northern facade turns its back on the street and noise.
Functionally, the building is a single-family residential. On the first level are the rooms from the "day group" – living room with kitchen and dining room. On the second level is the "night group" – the bedrooms. On the third level – "privacy area" – a study room that can also be used as a guest room. Parking is designed under a glass shed near the street.
The interior of the house is a sequel of the exterior. The volumes, materials and textures continue the logic of the facades, and the elements are again on the border between new and old, abstract and natural, dynamics and calmness.
Although with traditional touches, the house follows modern trends for energy efficiency and technology. Thanks to its simplified volume, compact shape and choice of materials, it reaches energy class "A", and as a result of the embedded technology - it is fully automated.
The building is designed between many boundaries – logical and aesthetic. It is in the search for the intersection between them that the balance can be found, and it must be the true goal of architecture - a house that contains modern values, takes advantage of technological progress, but also does not lose the character and comfort of a real home.
