This project is in an area where homes more than 100 years old were partially destroyed by the Great East Japan Earthquake. A Chinese medicine station, studio, warehouse, and others on site became new construction buildings built in the same positions.
Because the client is a Chinese medicine doctor in the same site, many people from all over visit this site for treatment. In the main building a large, open entrance was created for local residents and patients to pass through. This waiting space can be used to display paintings and pottery, or in other various unconventional ways. By installing LDK solar panels on the north side, they also serve to protect the privacy of passage through the entrance.
The roof is arranged through beams that combine the 2X10 material, exposing the richness of the material of the Japanese house, intending to have a nostalgic feel.
The new building was made earthquake-proof with airtight high thermal insulation, and the entire heating made possible by current technologies with little impact on the surrounding environment. It is hoped that the building will become a place where people in the neighborhood want to gather.
