Houdini Box is not a common “Box”, it is a playful and exciting Tiny House, a conceptual project presented in 2018.
It is to be used for a family up to four people, in a light and interactive contemporary architectural space, works completely off-grid in a sustainable way of living with no financial constraints and lots of space. More importantly, the family can choose how to assemble de modules, and where. This transformable solution allows to create between 50% to 66% supplementary space with same cost-production and uses cost benefit as the qualitative improvement of people´s life by keeping within the lower budget for increase the quality and amount of inhabitable space.
The most common daily activities require an element for their comfortable development, these elements were consolidate into a compact nucleus space that frees the rest of the house for other uses, these element raises the free height for water supply and off-grid use design features for this propose. With a bottom part featuring metal construction, allows 10 different configurations with the basic core module and 50 combinations with expansion module, accordingly to the people’s mood, the sequence of the seasons, the views, the site and the esprit of place.
Freedom is Happiness.
Sustainability is the core feature of the design, every aspect of the design is thought taking sustainability in consideration beginning by the small size and small carbon foot print as well the vast possibilities of configuration, size and materials choice and more important: great liberty in location´s options.
The project design approach in the early design stages had in consideration the three main goals: Reuse, Reduce and Recycle for minimize any negative environmental impact of the Houdini Box by efficiency, use of materials, energy and variety and quality of design spaces and functions as well the form and orientation of general volume.
A great deal for sustainability in this proposal is its mobility, said that it is reasonable to hope for light materials for lifting proposes, meaning that crane lifting points for the module were implemented into the design to make it a transportable house.
