Hou Lake·Cultural Centre for Contemporary Architecture takes urban renewal as the background and problem-oriented, and discusses topics such as the search and organization of architectural language, the selection and creation of spatial atmosphere, structure and sustainable construction from the perspective of locality. The aim is to explore a bottom-up, differentiated and multi-dimensional adaptive spatial model of local architecture. The design uses the "nested relationship" of old and new architectural elements to reveal a concept and design strategy of "spatial transparency", which opens up new possibilities for urban renewal and architectural activities through the compression and extension of space between new and old, inside and outside, building and environment.
The project is located in the largest urban village in Yuelu District, Changsha. On the one hand, the park management needs to activate the potential of the park and create an attractive public space. On the other hand, through design empowerment, this project will optimize the allocation of social capital and enhance public attention. With the help of urban architectural public art activities, the low-value stock space of Houhu is activated, and the high-level organic renewal practice with Houhu characteristics is promoted.
In addition to retaining the steel structure left over from the original farmers' reconstruction, the team chose the cast-in-place wood grain fair-faced concrete with sandwich insulation as the material of the outer protective structure, which can combine the continuous and staggered fair-faced concrete wall with the glass curtain wall to form a rich "transparent" space, breaking the inherent "closed and thick" characteristics of the fair-faced concrete building.
