The hotel, with 18 floors above ground, includes 214 rooms as well as various complementary activities. The project strategy focuses on emptying the interior volume of the main body of the existing building and reusing the surplus buildable area in a higher, superimposed volume that offers a balanced triangulation with the two emblematic tall buildings on the other facades of the square: the Madrid Tower and the España building.
The use of granite on the façade responds to a desire for respectful integration into the historical and monumental surroundings of the city. Its ornately curved geometry is reproduced in the glass that forms the double skin of the openings, a thermal and acoustic filter that alludes to the examples of glazed galleries, shop windows and facades of the neighboring Gran Vía in Madrid.
