Hotel Saltus is the expansion of the nearby Hotel Tschögglbergerhof in Jenesien. This task was assigned to tara after winning a competition in which the best architectural firms of South Tyrol were invited. The biggest challenge of this project was to fit a large building into the very delicate alpine context: in fact, Jenesien is a small village in the middle of the woods. That's why it was decided to divide the large volume into several bodies that fit into the ground, taking advantage of the slope and following it. This solution proved to be right: on one hand the buildings are leaning against the mountain slope, allowing only 3 of the 7 floors of the complex to emerge. However, on the other hand, at their high points, the lower part is hidden by the forest. This means that the rooms on the lower levels have an intimate and direct relationship with the surrounding environment. As such when you look out from their balconies you can almost touch the tree branches, while in the spa you can really feel as if you were in the middle of the
forest. On the other hand, from the upper floors, your eyes sweep free as far as the Dolomites: from the infinity pool on the rooftop you can enjoy a breathtaking panorama. A stunning aspect of this project was the speed of execution: despite its
uneasy alpine conditions with strong gradients and rough terrain, as well as the large size of the intervention, it took only 8 months from the beginning of the excavation to
the opening of the hotel.
