Dyer -Smith Frey create Redesign and Interior Concept for Hotel City Zurich and Restaurant & Bar Löweneck, Zurich
Interior Design Duo Dyer-Smith Frey redesigned the Hotel City Zurich and adds an individual boutique hotel to the Swiss city. Located in central Zurich, the three-star hotel has 60 rooms, half of them for single travellers. The newly designed interior of the Zurich City Hotel approaches business guests but also discerning globetrotter. Each room is unique in layout and size, interior and colour scheme. Key Pieces in lobby, reception and rooms are designs of Dyer-Smith Frey.
Hotel City Zurich, since 1947 located in ‘Löwenstraße’ has been completely renovated in a few months and has turned into a timelessly elegant boutique hotel. Dyer -Smith Frey merges existing elements and own designs and takes on tradition and past. Yet a custom- made polygonal, brass reception-counter contrasts the old, wooden key boxes at the reception. The cosy charm of the entrée is highlighted by wooden armchairs and a by a stylized fireplace.
A clearly drawn staircase leads to a small salon on the first floor - an ideal meeting point. Elegant corridors direct to the rooms on 4 levels: shades of brown and aubergine, dark grey and golden wall lights. Black and white photos from a photo competition, specially organized for the opening of the hotel in late January 2014, show Zurich from different angles.
The rooms - all unique
The room design with parquet or carpeted floors is subject to three different colour schemes: Elegant Beige, Smoke Green and a Dark-Red Coral. Facing an opposite black, the elegant creamy beige grants the room a calm ambiance. Smoky shades of green for a classic and cosy atmosphere. Through the rich feel of the materials and a mix of dark woods the room gets a touch of British flair. Coral –Red, the third colour category, combined with dark wood and beige fabrics gives a warm feeling to the space.
Each room shows an individual layout - a challenge for interior designers. All
rooms have been individually furnished with Dyer -Smith Frey designs, accented with selected accessories .
The fourth floor has a terrace overlooking the charming courtyard - perfect spot for a suite with balcony. Only the design of the suite breaks out from the colour scheme of the Hotel design - these two rooms and bathrooms are ruled by a rich turquoise contrasting anthracite-coloured walls. The bedroom features wallpapers with cloud-patterns and elegant walnut furniture and turns the suite in an ideal lieu for relaxation and recreation.
