In the course of the redesign of the inner Mariahilfer Strasse, former Hotel Kummer is to assume a central function at the intersection of Mariahilfer Strasse, Neubaugasse, Amerlingstrasse and Schadekgasse.
The hotel will be rebuilt as well as extended in the attic and the roof structure will be made accessible to hotel guests and the public alike. The elevated dome will house general areas such as a café, bar and breakfast rooms.
A cross vaulted roof will be placed on top of the house at the crossing point in order to complete the ensemble of the roof formation of the related corner buildings.
The proportions of the extension, its length and width follow the geometry of the narrow front façade and the richly decorated façade in Schadekgasse.
In Mariahilfer Strasse the roof adopts the geometry of the corner risalites and forms the dormer-like transition to the neighbouring building.
In Schadekgasse the roof is to be built steeper and given the same roof pitch as in Mariahilfer Strasse in order to harmonize the building complex and establish the connection to the existing roof of the neighbouring house.
The roof extension will also be steepened from the crossing of the building wings onwards to the corner extension in order to make the elevator overrun and machinery disappear inside the roof.
The existing staircase will get an additional entrance at Schadekgasse which will make the café in the dome accessible to external guests.
