A small hotel with 12 guest rooms was built in an industrial area as a conceptual extension of a meeting place for classic cars. A robust and site-typical structure made of semi-precast concrete elements and profiled glass with transparent thermal insulation is complemented by fine wooden fixtures, each of which defines the „special places“. Each guest room is given its own little „parlor“ with a prefabricated wooden box made of exposed „CLT“ which extends the conventional concept of the hotel room from a bedroom with a table and armchair to a real place to stay with the evening sun, quality of stay, and view. The folding of these cross-laminated timber elements also creates an individually assigned outdoor space for each room. The façade geometry specifically directs the morning and evening sun into the room. In conjunction with the free thermal storage masses of the concrete, external sun protection can be dispensed with. On the roof, two clear and minimalist wooden superstructures are erected to form a seminar room and a private spa with a surrounding terrace and an unobstructed view over the Rhine plain. On the first floor, the reception furniture, the bar, and the lounge, designed as a library, pick up on the texture of the wooden materials, bringing warmth and a tactile feel to the roughness and austerity of the surroundings. An unusual concept that deliberately moves outside the uniform hotel architecture with its own language, and once again makes traveling a real „being a guest“ experience in the best sense of the word.
